Yemen

The war in Yemen started in 2014, after the Arab Spring Revolution escalated. The Houthi militia, an Iranian-backed rebel group that has been controlling most of the North of Yemen since 1992, began to expand its offensive and eventually captured the capital, Sanna, in 2015. This led Saudi Arabia and other Sunni Arab countries to join the conflict to prevent the Iranian influence from expanding in the region.

This resulted in the war becoming a proxy war between Saudi Arabia and Iran increasingly, who are fighting for religious and economic dominance in the SWANA region. This has led to terrorist groups taking advantage of the instability spreading throughout the country, causing more death and distribution to the people of Yemen.

Almost a decade into an armed conflict nearly 400,000 Yemeni civilians have been killed. The country has remained to be the world’s worst humanitarian crisis by the World Health Organization due to the severe shortage of food, water, and basic supplies. Almost 30 million Yemenis need humanitarian assistance, and more than half of its population faces crises.

Today, the poverty line in Yemen is unbearable. The UN estimated that 24.1 million people in 2021 were “at risk” of hunger and disease, and roughly 14 million were in acute need of assistance. Llah charity believes that everyone is entitled to these fundamental human rights, and it’s our job to advocate and provide aid to those who lack it.
